About The Project:

Project Overview

Modus was engaged to provide traffic engineering services for a seven-townhouse development in Caloundra, Queensland. Our role focused on utilising our QLD traffic engineering expertise to respond to Sunshine Coast Council’s Request for Information (RFI) following the initial Development Application submission.

The assessment involved reviewing site access, servicing arrangements and parking design, and preparing supporting traffic engineering documentation to assist the Development Application process.

Modus’ involvement focused on supporting the Development Application process through targeted traffic engineering input and documentation.

The assessment was prepared based on available design information at the time and was intended to assist Council in its review of the proposal, alongside other planning and engineering considerations.

Project Challenges:

Council feedback identified several design elements requiring further justification or refinement.

These included:

  • Servicing requirements for forward-in / forward-out vehicle movements, which would increase on-site turning areas and impact the proposed layout

 

 

  • Car parking located near the site access, where potential queueing interactions with the road network required consideration

These items required a balanced approach that considered both design constraints and traffic engineering performance.

Traffic Engineering Solutions:

Modus prepared traffic engineering advice and supporting analysis to address Council’s feedback and assist in progressing the Development Application.

This included:

  • Reviewing servicing arrangements with reference to AS2890.2 and typical service vehicle demands for residential developments

 

  • Undertaking a high-level review of traffic generation and parking demand characteristics

 

Based on available data and typical residential operating conditions, the assessment indicated that:

  • Revised servicing arrangements could be supported with consideration of expected vehicle frequencies and site constraints

 

  • Private vehicle access to garages was likely to operate effectively under typical conditions

 

  • There was a low likelihood of external queueing impacts, based on the development’s anticipated traffic generation and parking demand.

 

These findings supported a traffic engineering response aligned with the proposed development intent, while addressing Council’s RFI.
